A piece of social history by Denis Thorpe. Collecting concessionary coal in a mining community in the north east of England. The strong back lighting makes a bold image and emphasises the physical business of carrying buckets of coal. It also establishes the location, the perspective of the strong brick wall leading the eye down the narrow back entry alley.
